On the 14th, 15th and 16th of December 2007, 2012 Sqn held a training course for cadets. The course was designed to teach the cadets what they need to know to be a good NCO. This course included lots of lectures and on the 15th we all had a go at being a leader and taking charge of a team. During the weekend we all had to prepare a 10min presentation on anything we wanted. CDT French did his presentation on the rules of football. CDT Godwin did hers on the Welsh rugby team. CDT Hall did her presentation on my chemical romance. CDT Poole did her presentation on mc fly and finally CDT Frost did his presentation on Reading football club. I fell that the whole course went very very well and I strongly recommend it if you get the chance to go on it.

This is usually in November but it may take place at other times, or even more than once a year if there is a change of government.
The ceremony takes place in the House of Lords and the Commons are summoned to hear 'The Queen's Speech from the Throne', formally opening the next session of her Parliament and setting out the policies of her Government. There is room for only a very few spectators inside the Palace of Westminster and tickets are difficult to obtain but, through television, the ceremony has been made available to everyone.

Route Marching

Since
October 2004 they have been to RAF St Athans on the first Sunday of
each month to train (walking between 18 to 25 miles each time) to be
able to be selected to attend both marches (not for the feeble minded
or unfit). The RAF WARMA March is 50 miles to be covered over two days (25 miles per day) FS Matthew Roberts and Sgt Luke Thomas were part of the No1 Welsh Wing team comprising 32 including accompanying staff. Staying
at RAF Cosford they had to get up at around 0400, get ready and have
breakfast and start at 0700 and finish around 1600 with three stops
during the day for a comfort break and lunch. On the second day the teams marched into RAF Cosford and on to the Parade Square,
apparently what they called "signing"!! still marching in step and
marched past the Commandant Air Commodore Chitty, who took the salute Total
participation 1100 - Commandant of the ATC, Air Commodore Chitty and,
around 700 Air Cadets and the rest were contingents from the RAF. Royal
Navy, British Army. Danish Army, and other cadet forces and Civilians. FS
Matthew Roberts and Sgt Luke Thomas are the first from this squadron to
take part in the RAF WARMA March since it started, well done chaps. The Nijmagen March is 100 miles to be covered over four days (25 miles per day) FS Matthew Roberts and Sgt Luke Thomas will be the first from this squadron to do the Nijmagen March for 30 yrs. Training continues ready for July The team travels to Holland to participate - they will stay in the Military compound and will be sent out daily on different routes. Participants
in the march will be around 10 000!!! and be British Military and Cadet
Forces and Foreign national service personnel and civilians. "Me thinks" there will be serious blisters chaps - look after the feet Medals are presented for each march and maybe worn on the uniform as directed. When medals are not worn then a medal ribbon is worn on the Brassard. Well done and good luck SWO

RNAS Yeovilton

Airshow is unspoiled by weather!

As from Monday 6 Jun 2005 Fl Lt Alan Griffiths assumes command of 2012 (Caldicot) Sqn ATC.

Fl Lt Rothery Harris has stepped down as Sqn Commander after around 20yrs. Fl Lt Harris remains with the squadron as a squadron officer.

FO Griffiths, was with 2506 Sqn based in Newport, which was a school squadron but, it closed and he was transferred to 210 (1st Mon) Sqn based at Raglan Barracks, Newport as a squadron officer.

Subsequent to that FO Griffiths was appointed detachment commander of Machan Detached Flight 2004 and then joined Caldicot during May 2005.

Fl Lt Harris has had long service with the Corps (36 Yrs) in total, starting as cadet in what was then 633Sqn ATC based in Newport but sadly that was closed many years ago.

Fl Lt Harris rose, as a cadet, to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer and remained with the corps until he went to university and gained a BSc degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Subsequently he secured a position at Hewlett and Packard, an American owned company, as an engineer and, still works for them today.

He was recruited by the current Wing Commander as a member of the staff at Caldicot.

Subsequent to that Rothery Harris was appointed a Civilian Instructor and then commissioned.

Rothery Harris eventually assumed command of Caldicot from the current Wing Commander Gareth Chapman, who at that time was Squadron Commander at Caldicot.

Fl Lt Harris has received:-

Air Officer Commandings Certificate of Good Service

Lord Lieutenants of Gwent, Certificate of Merit.
