Lord Lieutenants of Gwent Certificate of Merit Lord Lieutenants' Certificate of Merit to - WO Derek Warren from 2012 (Caldicot) Sqn Air Training Corps.
CFS Kristian Chown
CFS Chown is the first cadet to be appointed as a Lord Lieutenants Cadet from Caldicot squadron. CFS Chown has been with 2012 (Caldicot) Sqn for nearly 4 yrs and has achieved the rank of Flight Sergeant and is a Staff Cadet. On weekends over the last three years he has attended 625 VGS and is a valued staff cadet with the school. CFS Chown has also achieved Grade 2 Pilot. CFS Chown has aspirations to join the RAF.
WO Derek Warren
WO Derek Warren has been in the Crops for 34 yrs joining at 17 in a welfare capacity for 3yrs and was appointed a Civilian Instructor at 20yrs of age. WO Warren was then appointed a Warrant Officer at 22 and has been in that rank for nearly 30 yrs. WO Warren was appointed Wing Warrant Officer for No1 Welsh Wing for a set period during the 1990's. During his tenure he has received the:- Cadet Forces Medal and 2 Clasps AOC's Certificate of Meritorious Service in 1992 Represented the Wing at the 50th Anniversary of the Corps Queens Jubilee Medal Lord Lieutenants' Certificate of Merit WO Warren is and as been supported by his wife Patricia who herself served in the Corps for a total of 22yrs, initially as a Civilian Instructor for 2 yrs then as a Warrant Officer for 12 yrs and now reverted to Civilian Instructor. WO Warren has previously seen his daughter Catherine (now 30) as a cadet and now a proud mother of two, Alexander and Olivia. He has two grandsons as cadets, Matthew, a lFLight Sergeant and, Andrew, a Corporal, with the squadron. He is very active in the squadron with usual cadet training and also arranging various events such as the annual Squadron Presentation Evenings and Dinners, arranging and conducting additional training at weekends throughout the year's calendar for cadets and NCO's and always attending other activities with the troops as required. WO Warren said, "that he finds it strange that new cadets are, in some cases, children of previous cadets and makes you suddenly realise how old you're getting!! " However he's always cheerful (if WO's can ever be cheerful !!) and positive and ready to help.
